The Very Yummy Michel Roux Jnr

This week I was lucky enough to meet the lovely and very smiley Michel Roux Jnr.

I caught the train into London and made my way to Devonshire Square with my colleagues Carly and Anna. My other colleague Judy we were meeting there. After a bit of palava on the central line we just arrived in time.

We settled in our chairs as Chef Michel made his entrance. He did a demo and chatted to us about his cooking.

He chatted to us about his recipes and showed us how to compiled three recipes from his book.

I was a bit worried about going as I didn’t want to shatter my illusion. But, he was smiley, chatty and a bloody lovely man. Though I do regret not asking for a recipe to use up my glut of courgettes and gherkins.

Ideas and Pipe Dreams

Ideas and Pipe Dreams

I love it when us girls get together we always have a giggle and at some point the conversation will turn to our ‘Delboy Millionaire Dreams’ moments.  Do you have these?

We will sit and think of all the things that we would love to have in our lives.

I think our current list is about 6 or 7 different business ventures that could potentially be big earners in our dreams.

Every time I think about these ideas I get a little bit sick as about 7 years ago I wanted to open a ‘soft play type area’.   Now we have one in town and its not ours.  To be fair its not quite the same as our ideas.

Then, today, on my drive home I have just noticed that a vintage, preloved shop has just opened, so that’s another one to cross off the list .  However, mine  also consisted of a tea shop serving tea in mismatched china, with massive Victoria sponge sandwiches and cupcakes then in one corner we would host vintage crafting sessions like crocheting, knitting and needlecraft too.

Which one will I cross off next?

Possibly,  the idea’s are too big which is why they will never get off the ground and we should think smaller?

Maybe it’s time to go back to the drawing board and reassess the list of potentials and actually bite the bullet and have a go or are they all just ideas and pipe dreams.

Shirkers and Workers – Just for fun….. or is it?

Shirkers and Workers

This has been sat in my waiting to post queue for a while so today I will bite the bullet and post it.

In every work environment there are the ‘workers’ and ‘shirkers’.  It seems that these days the shirkers out way the workers.

Shirker Alert!

Och Eye :

Tendencies of the Och Eye:

  •  Make appointments in the middle of the day and apparently that means cannot come to office before or after meeting.
  • Pretend not to have lunch but disappear from desk for long periods of time
  • Takes three or four attempts to dial a number ( number dyslexic always a possibility given the Och the benefit of doubt )
  • Always expressing how busy they are and how much there is to do though never actually does any of it
  • Any excuse for a work at home day or  a lunch out on expenses

Tendencies of the Ditherer:

  • Can’t make a decision
  • Can’t retain any information shared with it
  • Very pleasant and everyone has a soft spot (or sympathy spot) but people skills are severely lacking
  • Cringe worthy telephone manner.  I sit as my desk and over hear some of the conversations and just am sometimes left astounded at the conversations I hear.

Worker Alert:

The Baker:

Tendencies of the Baker

  • Generally all round pleasant person
  • very very rarely looses temper
  • always goes out of way to help everyone else even if busy
  • sharer and feeder – great cakes and savouries

The Moaner:

Tendencies of the Moaner

  • Has lots to say about everything
  • Hard working and always strives to do the best for the customer and actually usually delivers the best service for their clients

I m sure that there are these people in all organisations.  I challenge you to spot yours?

Silent Sunday – 5am 27th July 2014 – Demolition of 3 Cooling Towers at Didcot Power Station

This is the start of the demolition of Didcot Power Station which has dominated our skyline for the last 4 decades.

These towers have been in my town for the whole of my life so far and they were destroyed in 12 seconds

(months of preparations I am sure).

Some people are glad they are gone but that’s another chunk of our heritage that has been removed.
